Costalegre is a stretch of Mexico’s untouched Pacific Ocean coastline teeming with amazing nature and properties to visit. “Costalegre” means Happy Coast and is owned by very few developers to protect nature and avoid over-exploitation of the area.
Located just 30 minutes from Puerto Vallarta, this is the quieter side of a Mexican vacation. Costalegre hotels offer high-end luxury with low impact, and each property I visited offers something different.
As diverse as the properties may be, they all share the common thread of authenticity, Mexican culture, service, nature, sustainability, and the luxury of space and connection. These properties highlight the elegance of simplicity and are an amazing Mexican bucket list vacation you need to experience.
Here are the best Costalegre hotels that you need to visit next time you visit Mexico’s Pacific Coast.

Careyes
A whimsical and bold destination exploding with color, inspiration and natural beauty, Careyes is an incredible villa destination on the West Coast of Mexico to your travel bucket list. This place is OFF THE CHARTS epic. I don’t think I’ve ever stayed anywhere like this before. Careyes is filled with eccentric architecture and is one of the most unique places I’ve ever stayed.
Careyes is a villa destination that is unique with a strong community feel. So many like-minded people come to stay here, whether for vacation or to rent or buy.
On top of the community, the property has so much heritage, including La Copa Del Sol, which honors women, as well as other sacred grounds. This stay is known for its energy and is famous among artists, celebrities, and those who value mindfulness.
On top of the colors and amazing energy, nature is at the forefront of the property. With kilometres of beaches and jungles to explore, you can truly escape in the Mexican jungle. The property prioritizes living in harmony with nature, and it is reflected everywhere as a mindful and protected sanctuary for over the last 50 years.
With it being a protected sanctuary, you may even see sea turtles nesting on their beaches. You can also get involved with the Careyes Foundation which has been involved in so many environmental, humanitarian, and wildlife conservation efforts including over 40 years of sea turtle conservation.
If you fall in love with this property, you can rent to buy at Costa Careyes so you can return year after year. This is a place that generations of a family can enjoy, especially if you foster those friendships and connections that Careyes hopes to encourage.
If you’re looking to book accommodations, there are a variety of options available at one of the top Costalegre hotels, from epic villas, residences, bungalows, club stays, castle stays, and more. There are a variety of price points and options for accommodation sizes so you can find the perfect match for your needs.

Las Alamandas
Las Alamandas is the most colorful rainbow boutique hotel that I’ve ever stayed in. It also has a way of making you feel like you are the only ones among the palm trees. Surrounded by nothing but jungle, organic farms, and the ocean, it is straight out of Mexican travel dreams.
When you think of design with pops of color and the Mexican aesthetic, Las Alamandas is what comes to mind. This property is very elevated with a super exclusive feel. Lots of celebrities stay at this property thanks to its vibes as a quiet, secluded resort stay.
The property features just 8 villas with 18 suites on property, making this the perfect quiet escape for a resort in Mexico. The villas are huge with multiple bedrooms, and each has a unique design, private jacuzzi, and amazing outdoor spaces.
The villas are great for groups of friends, couples traveling together, or groups looking for a space to share. Some of the villas are right on the ocean, some have gardens, and some are right on the stunning beach the property boasts.
Outside of the villas, the hotel features a big open area for dining, but you can also have meals delivered to your villa at any time. Since this is an all-inclusive stay, meals in your villa are included. The food is amazing and authentic Mexican cuisine. Between the on-site restaurant, beach club, and rooftop bar, all of your dining and social needs are met.
When you’re ready to explore, Las Alamandas resort has so many different activities to offer including horse riding on the beach, kayak rentals, yoga, a spa, a boutique, private picnics, boat tours, and many sports facilities like tennis courts and bocce ball courts. The on-site concierge can help you organize any of the activities you are hoping to take part in.
Las Alamandas Resort also has many eco-focused activities. If ocean conservation is your passion, you can get involved with their Sea Turtle Protection Program and help release baby sea turtles into the ocean. If native ecology is your passion, meet with a local biologist to learn about native bird species and take a personalized birding tour. You can also visit the organic gardens and farms to pick your own fruits and veggies or talk to the staff at the resort to organize your perfect eco-tour while staying in Costalegre.
You can book your stay directly here or through Booking.com here.
Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo
Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo is very different from the other properties on this list, but it has everything you could need and is one of the best hotels in Costalegre. It has a very trendy design and that amazing Four Seasons feel. The room we stayed in is probably one of the most beautiful rooms I’ve ever stayed in, with comfortable beds, stunning panoramic views and even a hammock to relax in. With our own private floor and our own pool, this room was out of this world.
The property is very high-end and is surrounded by lush jungle. It is very remote and has insane little coves and beaches to explore. The view here reminds me of Capri, with the rocks jutting out to the sea that feels like paradise.
We stayed in the Cliffside Panoramic Suite, with a private infinity pool, a hammock, two gorgeous lounge chairs, and a three-room living space. This was one of the most amazing rooms I’ve ever stayed in and is one of the best views I’ve ever seen from a hotel room.
The spa here has everything you could need, but there are plenty of other options for activities as well. The concierge can help organize everything from whale watching, to movie nights, amazing food and tequila tastings, boat trips and more. We did their traditional Mexican spiritual cleanse and really enjoyed it.
There are also lots of bars and restaurants with amazing food so that you never have to leave the property if you don’t want to. It truly brings the modern Mexican experience with the extremely high-end Four Seasons feel!
You can book direct here or through Booking.com here.
Las Rosadas
Las Rosadas is a very intimate property nestled within a nature preserve. With three unique accommodation options, there is something perfect for everyone. With three beautiful beaches to explore, on-site dining, and unique experiences, this property has something you’ll love.
If you’re looking for a highly boutique feel, Las Rosadas is the perfect choice for your Costalegre hotel. With some of the best owners, this property is very small, making for an intimate stay. The villas are set up on the hill with a panoramic view of the palms and beach below. Each villa has its own path to the beach making it feel like your own private beach.
If modern Mexican architecture is something that you are seeking, the Ocean Club Casitas may be the best option. Blending life by the sea and attention to details, these casitas are newly completed and sit on four acres bordering the ocean. The simplicity and elegance show that this hotel was carefully thought out.
One of my favorite beachfront stays in Mexico, the Casita Las Palmas is the only little beach bungalow of its kind on property. This is truly a “feet in the sand” type stay, with the Playa Las Rosadas beach just steps away. This little beach stay is great for romantic stays or for those looking for a barefoot luxury stay.
Las Rosadas is so much more than the accommodations, with various activities that can be organized. You can enjoy group activities like beach volleyball, exploring the on-property palm forest, horseback riding on the beach, and more. Almost the entire property is protected, putting the sustainability of the local ecosystem at the forefront. To make exploring easier, Las Rosadas gives each room a golf buggy to explore the property and its various coves more easily.
Dining options include the restaurant that is lined with cactuses wearing sombreros. This restaurant is open to everyone on property and has a little beach bar for refreshments too.
They offer private dining experiences as well, such as the private beach dining that we experienced. This was one of the most beautiful beach dining and bonfires that I have ever experienced, which was one of the highlights of our Mexico trip!
With so many amazing luxury hotels to choose from, a visit to Costalegre, Mexico, is a must for those who love hidden gem beach destinations. You’ll find yourself wanting to come back again and again to this off-the-beaten-path Mexico travel destination!
