Mexico has some incredible resorts that are perfect for a honeymoon or a luxury couples escape. In this blog, I’ll share with you some of our favourite beach resorts from our experiences across Mexico. Forget the all-inclusive resorts of Cabo & Cancun that you’ve heard about. This is our list of romantic, elevated properties for adults who are looking for something special.
One & Only Mandarina (Riviera Nayarit)
Surrounded by seemingly endless jungle and fronting the Pacific Ocean, One&Only Mandarina is an eco-chic oasis. It’s lush luxury wilderness that feels like it’s worlds away from everything. Located on a stretch of the Rivieria Nayarit coastline that is already largely untouched except for a few coastal villages.
Once you have arrived, there’s really no reason to leave. The property has incredible food, lush stand-alone villas, private beach access, ocean views and one of the most impressive spas I’ve ever seen. One&Only always delivers on exceptional style and comfort, Mandarina being no exception. Every detail is thought out so you can relax and enjoy time together.
Being only a 45 minute drive from Puerto Vallarta international airport, it’s highly accessible, but wildly remote.
Other mentions:
- Adult-only clifftop pool at Carao
- O&O spa with jungle dip pool and onsite Temazcal
- Treetop private villas, as well as the ultra-luxe Grand Villas for a few couples travelling together

San Cristobal (Todos Santos)
San Cristobal Hotel is an iconic hotel in Todos Santos, on the Baja California Peninsula. Only a one-hour drive from the much more touristy holiday destination of Cabo, this region is the perfect escape for couples wanting a more unique and relaxed Mexican vibe.
The hotel has amazing style. Vivid colour pops, bohemian interiors, intricate tiling and impressive architecture make it an aesthetic dreamscape. It is a little gem sitting at the end of a dusty road and surrounded by endless cactus, desert and mountains. It’s also the best place in the region to enjoy a blazing sunset, being set right on the ocean with panoramic views.
Other mentions:
- Take a hike from one of the trailheads next to the hotel for views overlooking the desert and ocean.
- Explore the eclectic town of Todos Santos (check out our Todos Santos blog).
La Valise (Tulum)
Tulum is a popular and uber trendy beach-side holiday strip on Mexico’s Caribbean Coast in Quintana Roo. It’s growing rapidly and there are plenty of luxury resorts being built here every year. We recently spent some time here and noticed the new party vibe that’s popped up in the central part of Tulum’s Hotel Zone. However travelling as a couple, we were looking for something a little more romantic. We loved the Southern part of the Hotel Zone for this reason, it’s much calmer & has an intimate feel.
It’s in this quieter part of Tulum, away from the hustle and bustle, that you’ll find the beautifully aesthetic boutique hotel of La Valise. Very small (only 11 rooms) with barefoot luxe vibes and perfect touches everywhere. La Valise is a gem. Enjoy the morning sun on the beach day beds, and afternoon sun by the stylish pool, with hammocks and palm trees added in. This place is bliss!
We loved La Valise for a couples getaway. You can have the ultimate Tulum experience, relaxing at the hotel and beach or venturing up the strip for great restaurants, smoothie spots or a night out!
Other mentions:
- La Valise has sister properties of Nest and Radhoo that you can check out, as well as an amazing restaurant (NU) across the road.
- Head to the Cenote Vesica just outside of Tulum for a swim, chill, drink or lunch!
One & Only Palmilla (San Jose del Cabo)
Another amazing place to stay is One & Only Palmilla in San Jose del Cabo. Close to the busy resort city of Cabo San Lucas and the international airport, this is a much more relaxed and affluent area on the same beautiful coastline. We had a completely indulgent experience. From the spa and incredible dining options, to the perfect location overlooking the Sea of Cortez, O&O Palmilla was very special.
The hotel has a very hacienda style that blends perfectly with the Mexican culture and cuisine. Our favourite spot was the Breeze Restaurant, overlooking the cliffside pool and the deep blue sea beyond. We watched whales from our lunch table within 5 minutes of arriving!
La Joya Sayulita (Riviera Nayarit)
Located just outside of the hippy surf town of Sayulita (see our blog here), La Joya Sayulita is an aesthetically beautiful boutique hotel set in the jungle. Just 10 mins drive from Sayulita, you’ll feel complete escape at this very private location.
The earthy Mexican design with cactus and natural timbers is what first caught my eye. With just 12 bungalows, turquoise pool, exceptional menu and direct beach access, this is the perfect spot to relax.
We love La Joya so much that we held a retreat here last year and are planning more to come! If you want to join us on our next Salty Luxe Retreat, sign up to our mailing list here, so you receive early access and don’t miss out on future details. Couples are more than welcome!
Paradero (Todos Santos)
Todos Santos is an artistic bohemian town on Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula. Colonial architecture, surf beaches, boutique shopping and cactus-filled desert landscapes make this a special place for couples to explore.
There are just a few luxury hotels in Todos Santos and we chose Paradero Hotel as our splurge stay. Set between farmland and cactus fields, Paradero is an eco-friendly luxury retreat aimed at experiencing this region with all of your senses. Most notably, this hotel boasts stunning raw concrete architecture, with simple yet truly aesthetic elements that pull your attention to the natural elements. It’s a great place to connect to your surrounding and each other.
Enjoy a spicy mezcalita by the pool, sign up for yoga or surf trips, and enjoy sunset over the mountains by your private rooftop hammock. The hot tubs also make for a romantic way to enjoy an evening.
Other mentions:
- Explore the nearby town of Todos Santos (check out our Todos Santos blog).
- Take a Taco Tour with the hotel to visit institution taco spots for the perfect fish taco, dine from roadside taco stands, and finish with a chocolate dessert taco back at the hotel.
